They really are still trying to push this bill, aren't they?
Bkay_179 ∙ Shared February 22, 2024 at 9:34 PM
Unfortunately, yeah. The updated bill looks less invasive on paper, but in reality, the vagueness of the bill is intentional, and will still let the government censor marginalized voices and important health resources :(

im not usually one to get into things like this, even if i do come from a very political family, but i do think this is something ill talk to my parents about fighting against. i had no idea this existed, so i thank you for bringing this to my attention.
Bkay_179 ∙ Shared February 22, 2024 at 9:25 PM
I’m really happy to hear that I helped you learn about the bill! If this bill were to pass, it would do so because people either misunderstand the bill or just plainly don’t know it exists. Spreading the news is the best way to ensure that we keep our anonymous, private internet <3
Sior ∙ Shared February 23, 2024 at 2:17 AM
Correct me if I’m wrong, But isn’t passing this bill illegal? According to the Internet privacy act, This shouldn’t be able to pass.
Bkay_179 ∙ Shared February 23, 2024 at 2:53 AM
Hmmm, that’s a tricky one. The Internet Privacy Act, at least the one that I’ve found, deals with internet service providers (such as Verizon or IT&E, for example), not websites or apps. There are other acts out there, but these acts can still be changed by Congress anyways. There isn’t anyone effectively regulating Congress or senate, proven by the numerous unconstitutional bills and laws circulating; they will try their hardest to do whatever they wish. Either way, this bill is still dangerous and still has a chance at becoming an imminent issue. However, I am not well versed in the law; the information in my comic IS heavily researched and uses reputable sources, but I am unable to parse the specifics when we leave the territory or KOSA and venture into surrounding legislation.
Thank you for your comment/question though! It did get me thinking about KOSA in relation to other external factors, and that’s always important.

I don't live in the USA
But still, fuck this bill.
The people in charge are becoming more dumb each day.
Bkay_179 ∙ Shared February 23, 2024 at 5:43 AM
True :( we can still help stop it tho, so that’s good. We have a chance
Coco1273DA ∙ Shared February 23, 2024 at 6:08 AM
I feel like its that time we drop our devices for a bit and start protesting to get this KOSA bill the fv₵k out
Bkay_179 ∙ Shared February 23, 2024 at 6:43 AM
Thank you so much! Getting the word around will help people learn about the harm this bill will cause :)

@Bkay_179 Your welcome!
Oopsie_poop80 ∙ Shared February 22, 2024 at 9:40 PM
I bet you if they do end up passing this (which I never hope they do) in like a year they will pull out some garbage graph saying "LooK how MuCh thIS BiLl hAS proteCteD ChILDrEn!!" And it will be completely fabricated numbers to try and keep this stupid act around.
I really hope that isn't a reality. For me, for you, for CS as a whole
Bkay_179 ∙ Shared February 22, 2024 at 10:47 PM
Yeah :( Unconstitutional bills are being passed every day, and numbers are inflated by news outlets to keep support for abusive laws. Thankfully, we have time to kill it at the source
Peh ∙ Shared February 22, 2024 at 10:57 PM
But unfortunately, I live in Malaysia.
Bkay_179 ∙ Shared February 23, 2024 at 2:08 AM
It is unfortunate that people outside of the States can’t help directly; especially since this bill will affect all users of the affected platforms. However, you can actually still help! Petitions exist that go against KOSA, and you can spread these around to help everyone prove their resistance of this harmful legislation. Here are some to help get started: https://www.change.org/p/save-our-free-and-open-internet-stop-the-kids-online-safety-act
https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/censorship-wont-make-kids-safe?nowrapper=true

In addition, learning about the ramifications of the bill and educating others about it will be a HUGE help. It is the approach I have taken; I live in a US territory, and my representatives have no sway in senate or congress. However, by educating people about the bill and it’s harmful effects, we are still fighting for a private, free internet.

Signed and reposted!! Hopefully this won't pass :/
Bkay_179 ∙ Shared February 23, 2024 at 7:39 AM
Thank you! Every vote and interaction counts. We will hurt KOSA before it can hurt children.
BerryComics ∙ Shared February 23, 2024 at 7:35 AM
man I just woke up (kinda into politics at school) BUT WHEN I READ THIS I KNEW THAT KOSA LITERALLY WENT THIS FAR TO GIVE MINORS NO FREEDOM WITH THIS KIND OF ACT ESPECIALLY THE PEOPLE I MEET ALONG THE WAY WITH THESE THINGS
veto. veto right now.
BerryComics ∙ Shared February 23, 2024 at 9:25 AM
@Bkay_179 Talk about MANIPULATION😖
Bkay_179 ∙ Shared February 23, 2024 at 4:41 PM
@BerryComics FR :( but there’s still hope; no hearings about the bill have happened yet.
Kyurei ∙ Shared February 22, 2024 at 8:26 PM
this is WORSE than SOPA and PIPA
i hope websites go black again to oppose these laws
Kyurei ∙ Shared February 23, 2024 at 6:55 PM
@Bkay_179 additionally, this is at least the third time they've tried to get this bill to the house and senate since 2022
Bkay_179 ∙ Shared February 23, 2024 at 7:01 PM
@Kyurei yeah, and they’re aggravated now and REALLY want it in this time
chiakii ∙ Shared February 22, 2024 at 9:49 PM ∙ Edited
it’s honestly sad that needing privacy has become an issue. it genuinely feels dehumanizing that the senate believes minors should not get the privacy they deserve.
Bkay_179 ∙ Shared February 22, 2024 at 10:53 PM
YES. This bill’s true purpose is dehumanization; of both marginalized groups and minors. But do not fear that everything will be gone in 3-4 days.
The bill needs to go through senate first. And while the hearing IS on February 26th, it still needs to pass congress and the White House. While this bill seems imminent and unstoppable, it isn’t. We can help stop the bill by taking away its support; hope isn’t lost, and if we can all band together on one thing, it’s that we deserve an accessible, anonymous internet.
