Well. You could always write him a letter of sorts. If you're too scared to talk to him face to face, then write him a letter explaining your feelings. I'm sure he'll feel the same way ^^
Though that didn't work for me so I don't really know-

Try to give him small gifts at first then slowly build up the relationship
